As the holidays approach ever so quickly (don’t they always get here a little faster?!), and we begin wrapping up 2014 and getting ready for what is to come in 2015, we always like to take a few moments to reflect on all of the things the year has brought us and all the changes that have been made. As always, this year brought with it a lot of excitement and joy, but also some sadness and mourning. From emerging new trends and styles to a man strutting the runway in ladies’ clothes at NYFW, to mourning the death of one of the industry’s greatest men, here is a look at some of the biggest fashion moments of 2014!
03/17/2014 – An extremely successful label, a hotshot boyfriend, gorgeous homes, and so much more… While many believe she had a seemingly perfect life, L’wren Scott showed otherwise when, at the age of 50, she took her life on March 17th in her New York City home in Chelsea. It is tragedies such as this that remind us that money and fame can’t always bring you everything, and sometimes we need to look deeper than the facades that many put on in the fashion world.
05/24/2014 – Of course, we couldn’t forget the wedding of the year… On Memorial Day weekend, Kim Kardashian and Kanye West got married at the Forte di Belvedere in Florence, Italy. Snagging the cover of Vogue and filling the tabloids everywhere, we don’t think there is a person out there that didn’t know about the couple’s nuptials!
09/08/2014 – In September we saw a man rock the runway clothed in a dress and heels and carrying an iced coffee at the Misha Nonoo NYFW SS ’15 show. Turning the heads of people everywhere, if the London designer’s goal was to grab the attention of many, he definitely was definitely successful.
10/20/2014 – In October, we lost one of the greatest leaders the fashion industry has ever seen. At 82 years old, Oscar de la Renta died in his home in Connecticut after fighting a tough battle with cancer. A true legend among designers worldwide, he is known by most for clothing the stars on the red carpet as well as the biggest name in the social scene. Though he was a front-runner in fashion, he will be missed and remembered by those in and out of the industry.
12/01/2014 – After his debut of 1970’s inspired tops and slacks in March at Louis Vuitton, Nicolas Ghesquière was named the most influential designer at the British Fashion Awards just a few weeks ago on December 1st.
This is by no means an all inclusive list of the biggest moments of 2014, but these are a few of our favorites from the past 12 months! What do you think of our selection? Do you have another favorite moment or memory?
